Good news everyone! We now have winners to the very first PinoyBBDev Challenge which kicked off last November 2011. The competition is initiated by PinoyBBDev to encourage Filipino developers to create applications for BlackBerry smartphones and/or PlayBook.
Entries were judged based on the following criteria: Uniqueness, Stickiness, User Experience and Appropriateness of User Interface. Bonus points were given to apps that implemented various BlackBerry APIs including BBM SDK and Location API among others; that exhibit SOLOMO (Social, Local and Mobile); and those submitted prior to deadline extension. Out of thirteen entries, these three applications made it to the top:
In Third Place is the SMART Services app that allows users to easily subscribe to various SMART services including its data plans; download caller ringtunes, movies and other promos; and share the app via BBM. Submitted by Randy Valencia, he will receive a BlackBerry Bold 9780, 1 month carousel at App World for this app and 5,000PHP worth of Sodexo gift certificates. Second best app will receive one 32GB BlackBerry PlayBook along with 1 month carousel at App World and 5,000PHP cash. And this is awarded to Dama by John Bibal III, a BlackBerry PlayBook game based on the Filipino checkboard game of the same name. And finally the winner of the PinoyBBDev Challenge is the BuddyBump (Beta) by Frytz Razal. This “friendship maintenance” app provides users a new way to socialize with your friends and keep track how much you meet them using Near Field Communication or NFC. Every “bump” with your friend will update both your friendship levels up a notch, but the longer you have not bumped into each other, the lower your friendship levels will be. Frytz will receive one BlackBerry Bold 9900, 1 month carousel in App World and 5,000PHP cash.
